We recently were fortunate enough to be offered this beautiful lap steel and its longtime gigging partner, a mid-1950s Magnatone Troubadour amp with the highly aesthetic cocoa-colored grillcloth (sold separately). This classic Fender sounds nothing short of amazing—lively, loud, and boisterous. With its translucent yellow finish and ash body, this Deluxe 8 looks like a close cousin to a vintage Tele. It also sounds a lot like one, but with two extra strings (by the way, we thought it sounded particularly good tuned to A6 and yes, the extra two strings provide some very cool possibilities for extended chords). All original, down to the screws, pots and of course, the single tuneful pickup that provides inviting tones across its entire range, from detailed highs to throaty mids and explosive, window-rattling lows. With plenty of original case candy and an original tweed case, all in very good condition. 8/10.
