Looking for an amp that will actually make you feel giddy every time you plug into it? This Evil Robot packs the same degree of evil as the hand-built model, but is actually affordable. With a logo that will attract the knowing stares of hip players from across a crowded bar, this happening amp features a custom-designed 12" speaker, a tube-buffered effects loop, foot-switchable channels, a built-in cooling fan, tremolo, and big attitude. Check out any of Phil X's demos using the Evil robot and you'll get the idea.

A dealer near us at a recent guitar show had five brand-spanking new Evil Robots--and quickly sold all of them except this one, which refused to fire up. We took a chance, figuring that our in-house tech would be able to figure out the problem--which he did in about 15 seconds. It was a defective power cord. We plugged a new cord into the receptacle in the back of the amp, and bingo, grin-inducing tones from every guitar we cared to try. $600.
