If you’ve checked out other amps on our site, you know how enamored be are of old Fenders. For road-worthy build quality and benchmark tone, they’re tough to beat. While there are some fine amplifiers among the more recent Fender offerings, only a small handful of Custom Shop models merit comparison to the originals. This is one of them. In our opinion, it’s Fender circuit design and construction at its best. Stunningly appointed with crème tolex and oxblood grillcloth, this amplifier is in excellent cosmetic and electronic condition. If it weren’t for one pea-sized ding in the tolex near the back panel (and the inevitable small amount of dirt that the crème color picks up over the years), we’d classify this as like new. The original alnico speakers sound sweet, the reverb is lush and three-dimensional, and the amplifier itself sounds clean and sparkly or big and beefy depending on how you set the controls. From chime, to blues, to Pete Townshend clang—it’s all here. Roadworthy point-to-point wiring, serious iron in the transformer department, and a pair of Groove Tubes 6l6GCs will keep this amp cranking for many years to come. $1400 includes shipping in the continental United States.
