In our experience, a unusually large percentage of Gibson guitars dating from the early ‘90s show heightened attention to detail and sound particularly good. We seldom see ES-175s from this era, and so we were eager to test our theory on this 16” hollowbody. To start, we were impressed with the clean construction — no sloppy finish work or errant glue beads here. And what about the sound? From low-volume supper-club jazz to rockabilly boogie, we were impressed by how easy it was to dial in inspiring tones. The stock ’57 Classic Humbuckers handle both clarity and grit with aplomb (complex, widely voiced chords are particularly well defined and dimensional). Finished in a still-vibrant and comparatively rare black, this guitar is constructed of a maple top, back and sides. All stock, including the original brown shroud case with pink interior. Includes some case candy. Sold!
