A relatively uncommon shadetop D-28, this guitar has enjoyed a pampered existence to date and is in very good-plus condition, but it has been played enough since we bought it that it’s begun to open up nicely. We bought it from its only owner to date, a middle-aged gentleman who said he purchased it new while working as a counselor at a summer camp in Idaho. He never really learned to play and at the end of the summer, the guitar went into a closet, where it largely remained until we bought it. To our ears, this guitar sounds best with a medium or heavy picking attack; there’s a surprising amount of headroom before it begins to break up. The high end is also particularly distinctive and dimensional, responding to a flatpick by ringing loudly without emitting harsh overtones. In all, the word “smooth” comes to mind when describing this guitar. Ships in a period-correct hardshell case. SOLD
