Finished in a beautiful cream color that the reissues attempt to replicate, but in our estimation don’t quite capture, this Stratocaster has a number of replaced parts, including upgraded Sperzel locking tuners, replaced string trees, aftermarket string saddles, newer pickguard, and newer pots and pickups. (Yes, we know that the mania to hot-rod instruments that first took root in the late ‘70s and continued unabated throughout the “what-the-hell-were-they-thinking ’80s” was, at best, a mixed blessing). Note that there is also additional routing under the pickguard for a humbucker, and some added foil shielding. Nonetheless, this Strat sounds really good, with the requisite snarky tones in positions two and four, a beautifully mellow neck pickup that would do Pop Staples proud, and a lead pickup that yields biting, highly present lead tones. Ships in a newer hardshell SKB case. Sold!
