Fender Mustang (1974)

When we were in college, two of us Aardvarkers caught the great roots-rock band the Blasters in their prime as they played in our Student Union building. Dave Alvin’s blistering workout on a red Fender Mustang spoke to us so much that we traveled to a different city to catch the band again the following night. Could what many consider to be a student-grade Fender really sound that good? The answer, in this case, is a resounding yes. This particular example continues our tradition of offering our loyal customers tonally superior Mustangs. This particular guitar is all original and in very good condition. As the photos indicate, it’s in sunburst finish instead of the solid colors more commonly offered on this model. The neck profile is what we would describe as a compact oval, typical of ’70s Mustangs and Broncos, and there is plenty of fret life remaining. Original case has broken center clasp, but the two main clasps function as they should. A few minor body dings (see photos) and a very light mark left in the finish where someone used tape to add their own racing stripe — we consider it part of the guitar's history, but it should polish out completely if you feel so inclined. Also, it should be noted that the original tremolo arm was missing when we bought the guitar, and we have not yet obtained a replacement. Sorry — the Princeton is not included. SOLD!
