What could be cooler than showing up at your coffeehouse gig, plugging your guitar case into a wall outlet, giving the built-in tube amp a minute or two to warm up, then plugging in a great-sounding guitar and launching into a song? With a built-in amplifier that is pretty darned similar to a Fender Vibro Champ (8" Jensen speaker and a 6V6 output tube), we're not sure that life gets much better than this "amp-in-case" Silvertone.
Manufactured in Neptune, New Jersey, this Masonite-and-pine creation sports two killer lipstick tube pickups, a 25” scale, a pair of concentric volume/tone controls, original "skate key" tuners, and the adjustable bridge that gives Danelectro products their unique sound and feel. The guitar is in very good condition, with only a few dings and a few stains on the white vinyl edging. The pots and three-way pickup selector switch function perfectly, the red sunburst finish is bright and unfaded, and even the plastic parts are still creamy white. Plug this Sears Roebuck marvel into the original and equally pristine amp-in-case and dial in a touch of tremolo for a period-authentic surf tone. Or pair it with your fave tube combo amp for David Lindley-style punch as you bash and twang through a menu of your favorite “extra greasy” numbers. The guitar plays beautifully and sounds lively, wooden and snappy. Everything about this package is 100% original, down to the rarely seen footswitch for the amp's vibrato function. $750.
